HISTORICAL MARKER ARRIVES FOR PILOT GROVE
The official Texas Historical Marker for Pilot Grove has arrived from the foundry and is to be erected soon on Hwy. 121 at Pilot Grove.  J.C. Taliaferro of Sherman, chairman of the Grayson Cou nty Survey Committee, announced.
The case aluminum marker with Swedish steel effect for durabiity and appearance measures 24"x18" and is sponsored by the Grayson County Historical Survery Committee.
This is the 13th official marer to be erected in the county.  Inscription on the monument is as follows:
"Pilot Grove.
Founded in early 1850.  On Bonham-McKinney stage line.  Called Lick Skillet; renamed, 1858, for J.P. Dumas' ranch.  
Site of Lee-Peacock feud, 1865 - 1871, between ex-Confederate Capt. Bob Lee with is gold and Union supporter Lewis Peacock.  Although Lee was killed in 1865, his followers carried on the fight until Peacock was shot."
Mr. Taliaferro said that date for erection of the marker will be announced soon.
The marking of local historic sites and landmarks is a part of a 5-year program of the Texas State Historical Survey Committee whose program is described as "RAMPS" which means Recognition, Appreciation, Marking, Preservation and Surveys of Texas history.  The RAMPS programs envisions the erection of 5,000 historic markers under the sponsorship of the state, counties, cities, civic organizations and individuals.
All erected markers will appear in official tourist guides and directories to help stimulate tourist trade and historical appreciation as well as to acquaint citizens of the county with their own unique historical heritage.
