LETHA PENN BEVEN 1845 - 1914 Letha Beven about 1905 Letha
was the daughter of Sanford and Elizabeth Penn and was seven years old
when her family moved to Kentucky Town. She and John Beven were married
in Grayson Co. by Pascal Head, J.P. on March 19, 1865; John Beven
disappeared shortly after they married.
The 1880 Kentuckytown, Grayson Co., Texas census, dated June 3, 1880, lists Letha living in her mother and step-father's (H.B. & Elizabeth LIndsey) household, along with her younger brother & sister, Sam Penn and Eliza Penn and half-brother, Thomas M. Lindsey (1869-1965) She kept a light burning in the front window of her home from the first day until the end of her life forty-nine years later hoping, waiting and longing for his return. She was a sister of Bill Penn. It was reported that Letha's grave was moved north because Bill's grave was not straight with the world. ("Kentucky Town and its Baptist Church" by Joe W. Chumbley, 1975.) Letha died in 1914 and is buried in Kentuckytown Cemetery.
