Allen Jameson, his wife, Catherine, and six children came from Missouri and settled in Grayson County, Texas in 1849. This was the beginning of Jameson, Texas and the Jameson School District. The community was named for Allen Jameson. His family lived in a large white two-story home. Three children were born in Jameson: Martha, Katie, and Samuel B. Allen Jameson was born in 1816 and died in 1900. He is buried in the Warden Cemetery as well as seven other relatives.

Dr. Higginbotham owned a few acres of land east of the school house. He and his family lived in a large building that also housed his office, the post office and a general merchandise store. Nearby was a grist mill.

In 1887 Jameson received a post office branch. Mr. Jameson was the post master. Luther Bradley was the assistant post master and manager
of the general store and grist mill. William Copeland served as postmaster in 1888 and John Cude in 1889 at Jameson. R.H. "Bob" Douglas, resident of Van Alstyne was postmaster in the 1890s.
("Seven Postoffices in This Vicinity Now Discontinued."  The Van Alstyne Leader, February 11, 1937, pg. 1)Dr. Higginbotham moved to Howe, Texas around 1905. Dr. Powell came to Jameson, staying a few years, and moving to Denison, Texas.

John Vivian bought the Jameson property. He lived in the house with his wife, Ida. He managed the store and grist mill and was post master until the post office closed in 1904. The mail was then delivered on Route 2 from Van Alstyne. Mr. Vivian sold his possessions and moved to Denison, Texas.

The population in 1890 was reported to be about fifty residents. There were Baptist and Methodist churches, a general store, a physician, and a gristmill and gin. The last available population was 1910 and was again fifty residents.

Jameson is located twelve miles southeast of Sherman in southeastern Grayson County.

All that is left of the community is the land and a big storm cellar in the school yard.
