Howe Happenings
Friday
evening a tramp went to the residence of J. M. White, about two miles
from
here, and asked for something to eat, which
was given him by White's
daughter,
Alice, she being the only one at home. What she gave did not satisfy
him, and
he ordered her
to give him milk. She was slow about getting the latter,
whereupon the tramp rushed at her and struck her with a stick. Miss
Alice
quickly seized a Winchester rifle which was sitting close by and opened
fire on
him. The tramp made good his escape. It is not
known whether she hit
him or
not.
