1960s 1964 Howe State Bank opens, being the first bank since 1930s. First board of directors organizing bank were: A. L. Greer, chairman; O. W. Lamb, P. K. Carmichael, Greer and Edwin E. Hayes, W. J. Trice, E. F. Arterbury, C. C. Jones, N. R. Langford, Jack Norman, Marshall Robertson and L. S. Thompson. N. R. Langford was contractor for original building. Hap and Veneta Sanford opened "Hap's Cafe" on corner of Denney and Haning Avenue. Opened in 1957 and operated til retirement. Four lanes- Highway 75. Present access road on each side of Highway 75 named Collins Freeway in honor of the W. W. Collins family. Will and Grace Collins are one of the early pioneer families, having operated Kimbell Milling Company in Howe. The Collins, along with Mrs. Collin's sister, Miss Mame Roberts, devoted much time to the Howe Christian Church and the Howe Sesame Club. The family of the late A. M. Ferguson donated land on South Hughes of A. M. Ferguson Memorial Park. A grain elevator had been owned on this land by this family prior to it being donated for park usage.
