Sherman Daily Democrat Tuesday, January 14, 1919 pg. 5 HAGERMAN To The Democrat: Hagerman, Tex., January 13 - The fine weather of the past few weeks has put life into everything and work of all kinds is assuming its normal conditions. The grain crops are looking better and the land is about dry enough to farm. Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Keyes of Sherman were pleasant callers at W.J. Gardiner's Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Bennett were visitors in Sherman Saturday. Mrs. Bennett remained over until Sunday. J.M. Cornell recently returned from Wellington, Texas, where he has been looking after real estate interests. Mrs. Ray East and daughters, Ella Jane and Katherine, of Indianapolis, Indiana are guests of Mrs. East's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Murrow. Almon Smallwood of Whitesboro was here last Friday. Mrs. R.C. Dryden entertained with a pullet party Friday night in honor of her daughter, Reba's, birthday. The peals of laughter attested to an enjoyable time by all. Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Gardiner went to Ft. Worth Saturday week to hear the world renowned evangelist, Billy Sunday. Mrs. M.J. Wood of Basin Springs is spending several days with her son, C.H. Reid and family. J.A. Kelley recently returned from Arkansas where he went to see his father who was accidentally shot in the eye, which afterwards proved fatal. Israel Barnes of Sherman was here on business Monday. Hunt Smith went to Dorchester to see his wife and children who are at Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter. Lee Morehead and sister, Miss Bettye, have both been sick with influenza but are better. Miss Lois Jenkins went to Whitesboro to spend the weekend holiday with her father. The ladies of the W.O.W. Circle met in a called session at the hall Saturday evening. Mrs. A.L. Smart, who has been dangerously sick for several weeks past, is reported improving. A.L. Smart was a Sherman visitor Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Dryden and Mrs. A.E. Dryden attended the funeral of Mrs. Charley Osmond at Sadler Sunday evening. Tom Ballard transacted business at the county site Friday. Albert Hayter of Gordonville was in our midst looking after his work of tick eradication. Abe Griswold of Whitesboro was here on business Friday. W.R. Sessions of Dallas was here Thursday in the interest of the Burkburnett oil fields. M.W. McConnell, the new cashier of the Dexter bank was here on business Saturday. Jim Russell of Whitesboro was here on business last Wednesday. W.A. Morrison and A.B. McClendon were business visitors in Sherman Tuesday. Rev. W.E. Moore, evangelist in the U.S.A. Presbyterian Church, preached 2 splendid sermons to a well filled house Sunday and Sunday night here. Mr. Moore is well known over this country as the blind preacher, having the misfortune of losing his eyesight when about 16 years of age. He was educated in the institute for the blind at Austin, after which he took a course in the Presbyterian Theological Seminary. This with a good natural mental endowment and a broad experience makes him a superior man of the age. J.J. Harris attended the Missionary Institute of the M.E. church South at Sherman last week. He reports the session one of unusual interest, having Bishop Ainsworth to preside. (The rest of the article is torn & missing.)
