HAGERMAN
To the Democrat:
Hagerman, May 1 - A terrific downpour of rain accompanied by some hail and wind and electrical demonstration visited here Friday night.  Fortunately little damage was done more than the washing off of some gravel which had just been placed on our new roads.  This will soon be replaced and when settled will be O.K. again.
Oats and wheat had the thorough soaking needed for a good crop.
Lee Morehead and his sister, Miss Bettie, of Locust, visited at their sister's, Mrs. J.R. Franks and family Sunday.
The Home Talent play was staged Saturday night at the school house, notwithstanding, the inclemency of the weather quite a large crowd were present.  The play was given for the benefit of further furnishing the room for the Girls' Home Economics' Club.
S.H. Keyes and T.M. Smith motored to Pilot Point Friday, where they met Rev. W.W. Sadler, and by their combined efforts they bought a large church lamp which will be installed in the Presbyterian church here.
Rev. Sadler filled the pulpit here here on the fifth Sunday in April.
Arrangement have about been completed for a large tent meeting the date of which will appear later.  The preaching will be done by a noted evangelist and all other Christians are asked to join in co-operation of prayers and personal work.
R.C. Dryden and family have moved to their new residence on South Heights.
H.L. Brewster and family visited relatives in Gordonville last Saturday and Sunday.
Mrs. M.J. Wood is visiting in Raines county at present.
Rev. C.M. McKinney fills the pulpit here every fourth Sunday.  The public are cordially invited to attend.
Since our last writing Cupid got in his effective work in the culmination of a love affair when two of our most prominent young people were united in marriage, namely: Glasgow White and Miss Clara Wilson.  Their friends here extend best wishes for a long and useful life together.
Judge J.A.L. Wolfe, president of Hagerman State Bank, was out to attend directors' meeting here April 21.
This date was also the occasion of our last trades day and although a holiday, was the busiest day our little burg has witnessed for some time.  Fine displays were brought in from surrounding country and many leaving with substantial premiums of material benefit in this time of high prices and war times.  This will take place every fourth Saturday of each month.  Everybody come with their exhibits.
L.S. Reid and family drove in here Saturday, April 21st, from a 10-days trip by motor from Globe, Arizona.  They came by way of Roswell, New Mexico, El Paso and San Antonio, reporting fine roads, a fine outing and a fine time.
Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Long of Locust are visiting their son, Ezra Long, and family of this place.
Mrs. Franks of Howe is visiting her son, J.R. Franks, and family at present.
