Ethel, Then and Now
Unnamed Newpaper Wednesday, September 18, 1960 Jacob Voelkle, born in Wintburg, Germany January 28, 1826, came to America in the 1840s by sailboat and came to Texas by train with his family in 1877. He had a long flowing white beard like older men in the "old country." He was a carpenter by trade and built the first wagon bridge out of hewn logs over Hogg Creek between Ethel and Collinsville.
