Ethel, Then and Now
Unnamed Newpaper Wednesday, September 18, 1960 Thomas William Robert Brown and wife, Rosie Hutton Brown, moved to Ethel in 1913, buying acreage from Dalphia Dye. Later daughter Ruth bought the adjoining plot on the east from W.H. Baker. Both placed have since been deeded to her son, Lawrence Reast, of Longview, Texas, and is farmed by George E. Light, Jr. The Browns' first house burned and they moved to Sandusky for the year 1922, but came back and remodeled a small house that was on the land. Mr. Brown died in 1936. Mrs. Brown moved to Collinsville (house too) in 1941. She later sold to Melvin and LaVergne Walden and bought in Whitesboro in the early 1960s; she died in 1971 just short of 100 years.
