STREET RAILWAYS
When the time came for penning an article on the street railways of the city, the capacity and facilities of the same, the Gazetteer reporter in charge of the work could think of no better personage from whom to obtain the necessary data and information than Mr. W.T. Scott.  We found Mr. Scott in his room and quite willing to impart such information as he possessed.
In the early spring of 1884, Denison was without street railway conveniences.  But at that time Mr. Scott commenced the construction of a line along Main street from the track of the Mo. Pac. railway to the western bounds of the city, a distance of one mile.  On this track he placed 2 cars and for a while was contented with the renumerative receipts of the business.  But in the latter portion of the year he began the construction of an additional line - leaving the Main street line at Mirick avenue and winding along the street and avenues in a southwesterly direction to the Boulevard, a distance of one mile and three-quarters.  When this line was completed, Mr. Scott put on two additional cars, making four in all.
In April 1885, Mr. Scott transferred his street railway lines, together with all the stock necessary for operating the same, to Mr. C.A. Walterhouse of Helena, Arkansas, for a consideration of $18,750 and Mr. Scott assures us that the receipts of the lines are amply sufficient to pay 12-1/2 per cent on the consideration, besides paying the proprietor a reasonable salary for his services in operating the lines.  It will thus be seen that there are now two and three-quarters miles of street railway in operation in the city, and the prospects are good for an increase in the near future.
The Boulevard track runs a mile and three-quarters in the direction of Sherman, and a scheme is now being agitated, both in that city and Denison, to connect the two cities by a system of dummy engines; this scheme will probably reach its ultimatum and become a reality ere we publish another anniversary edition of the Gazetteer.....
Some time last year Mr. W.B. Munson obtained a charter to lay a street car line over east of the railroad and to run into and along other streets of the city; but we have nothing of late concerning his intentions to carry out his enterprise.
We were informed by Mr. Scott that some gentlemen of the city are now figuring on a line to run along Gandy street from the business portion to the northwestern boundary of the city.  If these two additional lines should be constructed, the surely Denison would be in a condition to boast of the greatest plans of street railways of any city in the state; but she is generally ahead in most things.
