210 West Main Street (Spencer's-- next door to Babcock Brothers, at 210 West Main, former site of Arcade Theater, and later Texas Hardware) From his 2005 Obituary: Mr. Spencer was born on April 30, 1910 in Spencer, Louisiana to Daniel Sr. and Leona (McVicker) Spencer. Mr. Spencer graduated from Huttig High School and attended Arkansas Tech University. Dan married Jean Stevens on November 25, 1937 in Dallas, Texas. The Spencers moved to Denison in 1946. Dan established Spencer Furniture and Appliance Store. After 27 years, he retired in 1971, and went into the ranching and farming business. Mr. Spencer was a Mason and a member of Lone Star Lodge #403 and had received his 50-year pin. Dan was also a Shriner and member of Hella Temple. Sometimes my check would say "Spencer's Tire Co." He sold furniture and appliances, as well as heaters and air conditioners. Dan asked for and got the phone number 465-9000, because it was easy to remember. He was the best salesman I have ever seen, and a good person. I enjoyed working for him.
