Two Local Morticians Announce Organization of New Funeral Home Here

Two well known morticians, Lloyd Moore and Sydney Johnson have announced their plans to establish a new funeral home in Denison, which will be known as the Johnson-Moore Funeral Home. The new firm has been organized, officers elected and application for charter made to the Secretary of State.
A tentative location for the new funeral home has been selected and officers are awaiting approval from the city zoning commission before beginning a remodeling program which will turn the 2-story residential dwelling into a modern funeral home. Brick veneer finish will be applied to the frame building it was announced, and the interior completely remodeled to suit the requirements of the new business. Donald Mayes, local architect, has been engaged to plan the remodeling of the building.
Officers of the newly organized corporation are Lloyd Moore, president; Mrs. Dove Moore, vice-president; and Sidney C. Johnson, secretary.
Mr. Moore came to Denison in 1932 and has been operating a funeral home since that time. He had previously lived in Denison for a year or more and was employed in the Kerr Furniture Company which was operating here in 1926. He came here from Whitewright where he operated a funeral home and also a furniture business.
The Moore's new home is at 1010 S. Maurice. He is a member of the Baptist church and in civic work. Mr. Moore has served as president of the Whitewright and Denison Rotary clubs, vice-president of the Denison Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Masons, Eagles Lodge and Rod and Gun Club.
Sidney Johnson has been connected with the funeral home business since 1933 when he started as an apprentice before his graduation from Denison High School. He served 3 years in the U.S. Army as a liason pilot in North Africa and Europe during World War II. He is a native of Hagerman and his home is at 624 W. Hanna. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Boosters Club and Rod and Gun Club, and is best known for his charitable activities with the Goodfellows Club at Christmas time.
Announcement of personnel for the new firm, aside from the officers, is not ready for release at this time, Johnson said.
