Comparatively new in Denison but representing an industry in which millions of dollars are invested over the nation is the manufacture of concrete brick and building tile by the Julian C. Field Company.

Son of Dr. J. C. Field, a pioneer Denison physician and civic leader, Mr. Field has operated a sand and gravel company for a number of years on Highway No. 75 north of Denison. He has furnished materials for a number of important highways as well as for a variety of private projects, including cement improvements at homes.

The manufacture of concrete brick and tile began recently on a conservative basis with Mr. Field feeling his way ahead as the project gained momentum. At the price of clay brick, the company offers brick and tile in twenty permanent shades and colors.

Concrete brick and tile, Mr. Field points out, offers exceptional advantages in permanence and economy as well as beauty. This building material is high in strength, low in moisture absorption, cool in summer and warm in winter.

One of the cardinal virtues of concrete, the fact that it grows stronger as the years pass, is inherent in this new and attractive building material. The Field company has an attractive display of brick and tile of various colors and styles at its plant.

Special machinery has been installed for the manufacture of these products, adding a new chapter to the city's industrial history. The equipment can be expanded readily to meet production demands. Concrete sewer and culvert pipes also are manufactured.

The operation is an addition to the Field sand and gravel business which continues as usual. Washed and screened sand and high quality crushed stone are moving steadily from the plant to points over a wide area.
