Harry Truman, left, and Claud Easaterly take a walk together At the age of 18, fresh out of high school, Claud Easterly went to work at the Denison Herald.
The first three months he worked for free, earning a spot on the
payroll in August of 1915. He retired in 1972 after spending 47
years with the paper, first as a reporter, then as an editor.
After his retirement he served on the Denison City Council.
Easterly's tenure at the paper spanned a period of great growth for the area. He covered such important events as the building of Lake Texoma and visits by President Franklin Roosevelt, candidate Harry Truman, and candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower.
