Thursday, September 24, 1936 pg. 1 DENISON 60-50-35 YEARS AGO By Dulce Murray September 24, 1874 Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, a goodly number of the gallant and beautiful of our young city gathered at the Alamo Hotel on last evening, the 23rd, to celebrate the second anniversary of the founding of Denison. The entertainment was opened by the Denison cornet band playing a few favorite airs from the hotel gallery. At 9 o'clock the ball was opened and from the moment a joyous happiness filled every heart and beamed in every eye chasing dull care away, until it seemed one happy family was doing the festive honors to one common parent. There were not less than 35 couples present, and the dancing was continued until the gray dawn streaked the east. At 12 o'clock a sumptuous luncheon was served by Messrs. Raff and Holman, of the Alamo, in which they outdid themselves. After supper dancing was resumed and the the hour of parting came it was with reluctance the goodbyes were spoken. Long, long will this second anniversary be proudly remembered by all who took part. Alamo Hotel History Copyright © 2024, TXGenWeb.
