COLLINSVILLE BANK ROBBED
The man who robbed the Howe State Bank on March 4, may have struck again - this time at Collinsville.
The Collinsville State Bank was robbed Monday afternoon, June 16, at 2:30 p.m. when a bearded man pointed a chrome-plated .45-caliber pistol at the neck of a customer and escaped with more than $50,000. Authorities speculate the bandit is the same man who robbed the Howe State Bank March 4 of $8,100 in cash.
The bandit apparently made his escape in a two-tone tan over gold Lincoln Continental. A car fitting that description was later found abandoned in Whitesboro. It had been reported stolen from Dallas and had stolen Carrolton license tags.
Bill Stevens, a retired rancher who lived 3 miles west of Collinsville was standing behind another customer at the teller's window when he felt a hand on his shoulder and cold metal pressed to his neck. The bandit marched Stevens toward the vault and ordered a bank employe to fill a sack with large denomination bills.
The robber was described as 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. Although he sported a full beard, Stevens and others in the bank believe the beard was glued on. He also wore dark-colored gloves and a ball cap with a Gainesville oil company insignia.
In the Howe robbery, a man wearing a blue toboggan cap pulled over his brown hair, entered the Howe State Bank at 2:45 p.m. just before closing time and demanded money from Nancy Eisenhut. He was described as about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. He made his escape in a brown or tan LTC.
