Every
Saturday there was a "drawing" in Collinsville. People came to town
from every corner of this area to visit, buy their supplies and
stay for the drawing.
The
Collinsville merchants all put in money for every Saturday afternoon
drawing. You signed up, and then your name was always in there
every Saturday. But if your name was called and you weren't
there, you didn't get it. I think it carried over to the next
Saturday and there was more money added.
My sister won once; I think it was about $40. I always went to the drawing on Saturday afternoons. In all my years I was going, they drew my name one time for $3.00. Man! I thought I was rich. I was at that time about 9 or 10 years old. Collinsville History Copyright © 2024, TXGenWeb. Grayson County TXGenWeb |
