The fire started about 4:30 o'clock this morning in a building owned by Mrs. A.T. Pelphrey and occupied by J.O. Fox as a restaurant. The fire spread rapidly to the building owned and occupied by the First Guarantee State Bank, thence to one owned by Tom Rogers of Denison and occupied by the Collinsville Times, the Times being owned by I.T. Payne. The next building to go was the opera house, a large two-story brick which was also owned by Mr. Rogers. The splendidly equipped library of Judge P.T. Shores, which was in the bank building, was also destroyed. The buildings were located on the east side of Main street, which runs north and south, and were among the most substantial and handsome structures in the little city.
