Ft. Worth Daily Gazette
October 24, 1890 Blaze at Collinsville Special to the Gazette Collinsville, Tex., October 23 - Last night about 2 o'clock a.m., fire broke out in the furniture store of J.M. Murray and before men could get there to remove any of the goods, the stock and building were consumed and the flames were licking up the frame storehouse adjoining, owned by J.W. Brooks and occupied by the J.H. Hayes. Probably half the Hayes' stock, consisting of general merchandise, was saved. The flames surged around the Younger brick block adjoining until it was thought at first that it would be sure to go, and a large part of Pelphrey & Gibson's stock of dry goods was moved into the street, but by the noble work of our citizens Younger's block was saved with a damage of about $250. N.J. Miller's loss in store $500, insurance $400. J.M. Murray's loss on furniture $650; insurance $450. J.W. Brooks' loss on building $400; no insurance. Younger's damage covered by insurance.
