CANAAN
Canaan, Tex., May 7 - We have gone through another stage of bad crop weather.  The floods of last week washed the hill lands very badly and the flat land was also more or less damaged.  Some think we will have to plant our cotton over, but we can't until we are able to get into the fields.  The wheat and oats are being damaged by so much rain and the corn is getting in very bad condition.  Out crop prospects are not only damaged, but many of our bridges are washed away.
The Farmers' Union of Canaan together with a few share holders from Kentuckytown and Pink Hill purchased the White and Everheart gin plant a few days ago; consideration $5,500, cash sale. Friday night the Board of Directors, composed of the following gentlemen were elected:
L.B. Sears
J.M. Everheart
E.E. Wilson
L. Eden
A.C. Keeling
all of Canaan local

John Everheart of Kentuckytown local
Billy Brown of Pink Hill local
W.L. White has been tendered the position of general manager, but he has not yet accepted.  This, in our opinion, is one of the strongest institutions in North Texas and will prove by paying investment to its many stock holders.   The gin will not buy cotton but is to be run strictly on the old toll system.
The citizens of Canaan school district will have a meeting tonight for the purpose of determining whether or not we will vote a special tax of 20c on the $100 to build a school building.  The Canaan citizens should not be satisfied with anything short of a modern school building.
Miss Nora White of Pink Hill is spending a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. W.R. Williams.
W.R. Williams was a Sherman visitor Friday.
The singing people who intended to go to Bloomfield Church, 6 miles east of Denison, Sunday were much disappointed on account of the rain, but we hope it will be announced for another date.
Misses Ethyl Roberts and Etta Ely have been the guests of Miss Myrtle Williams and aunt, Miss Nora White.
