SHERMAN, May 6. - An affecting scene was witnessed in the County Judge's office this morning.  A man giving the name of Shears, from Denison, came in and made application for admittance into the almshouse.  His story was a sad one, to the effect that his wife's health was so bad that she had been confined to her bed for a long time, and that the support of a family and expenses incurred by his wife's affliction had been too much of a strain for him to accumulate any money, and when the hard times caused by the strike came on he found himself unable to 'get work at anything, and as a last extremity he had made application for admittance to the almshouse.
This pitiful appeal to be allowed to go to the almshouse and work at anything that offered itself, just to be near his wife and children, was granted by his honor, and the whole family were turned over to Transportation Agent Burton, who carried them all to the almshouse this morning.
