DEATH AT COUNTY FARM
G.W.
Gaines, 42 years of age, died at the county farm Thursday. He was
sent to Sherman from Whitewright, together with his family several
weeks ago, and both he and his wife were ill. St. Vincent's
Sanitarium kept the entire family for some time and the sisters out
there did all they could for them and were given medical treatment also.
Later
the county took charge of them, Mrs. Gaines having improved
considerably. Mr. Gaines' malady was tuberculosis, and he
gradually grew worse until the end.
He is survived by a wife and seven children. - - - Sherman Democrat
It
will be remembered that Gaines and his family appeared here on the
streets two or three months ago in destitute circumstances. They
had been in this community only a short time, having come here from
Kentucky. One of their children, a little girl about seven years
of age, was found to be seriously ill with pellagra. Sufficient
money was given them by the people here to take them to the Sanitarium
in Sherman.
