Woodmen Circle Home Interesting Facts There were no marriages between those brought up in the home, but a number of weddings took place there.
Independence Day Homecoming in 1950 reported 71 (actually more than 100) had been served by the Home. Hundreds of visitors and returning orphans and families returned. Another reunion was not held until 1988. During World War II, 32 Woodmen Circle Home boys and one girl served in the military. Throughout the operation of the Home, military service was the next step for many of the boys. Without a family for support, most found college unattainable after graduation. In its early years, recreation was only allowed on Sundays. Boys "from town" especially liked coming to Woodmen Circle Home for its traditional Sunday fried chicken lunch. Hunting, fishing and horseback riding on the extensive, wooded property offered great opportunities for both residents and guests.
