The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, August 11, 1895 The building was constructed by A. M. Jacobs around 1900. Beneath the building was a 100-foot-deep well of water strongly laced with minerals. The was was valued for its curative powers which attracted ailing clients from far and near. Jacob's Well gained a wide reputation and was successful for a number of years. A concrete above-ground swimming pool was added on the north side. In 1925, Mrs. Jacobs died in a fire. After the loss of his wife, A. M. Jacobs neglected the business, building and equipment. Mr. Jacobs died in the early. Al Jacobs, their son, returned to Denison in the 1960's, determined to revive the business to it's former condition. The well was still there but the pump needed replacing. The water heater and other equipment had deteriorated beyond use. His dream never came true. Apartments were rented in the old building for a while but soon passed as well. The property is now part of the Eisenhower Birthplace Historical Park.
