The first man arrested under the new pistol law in Sherman was Joseph Howlett.

The New Laws
The following is the full text of the pistol law:
"Art. 318.  If any person in this State shall carry on or about his person, saddle or saddlebags any pistol, dirk, dagger, slungshot, sword cane, spear or knuckles made of any hard substance, bowie knife, or any other kind of knife manufactured or sold for purposes of offense or defense, he shall be punished by fine of not less than $25 nor more than $200, and shall be confined in the county jail not less than twenty nor more than sixty days."
