First Elected Sheriff of Grayson County The
first officials of Grayson County were appointed. Following the
removal of James M. Randolph for misconduct in November 1846, Joshua
was first elected Sheriff of Grayson County, Texas, serving in that
office until 1850. He served another term, 1864-1865. He
married Harriet Bradley in May 1847. After the death of his
father-in-law Seymour Bradley, the 1850 census shows Harriet's sister
Sarah Elizabeth and her brother Wesley Walke living in the West
household. (History of the Bradley
Family of Grayson County, Texas, compiled by M. C. Haggard 2003, pg
16-17.)
