Thomas Volney Munson
1843 - 1913 T. V. Munson had three homes in Denison.
His first home was on a bluff overlooking Red River and Oklahoma. It was named "Scarlet Oaks." It was across the highway from Munson Park, just north of Denison. [Info from Dr. Roy Renfro, August 11, 2010 His second house still stands in the middle of the block bordered by Mirick Avenue, Fannin Avenue, and Burrell. You have to go up the alley south from Burrell or up the alley from Fannin, which has a street sign that says 500 Wilde. The house is at the top of the hill east of Scott Middle School and east of the Boys and Girls Club on Mirick Avenue. It was built with the animal pens under the house to protect them from weather and predators. After the third house was built, T. V. Munson moved his caretaker into this house. 1815 South Fannin Avenue Front view from southeast, ca

Oenology Program at Grayson County College, says this house "was used
while 'Vinita' was being built."
I have been told that the whole family did not move to the house [shown here] - - - it was used by Munson and other workers. After "Vinita" was built in 1887, this house was the home of the caretaker of Munson's horticulture business. Note the magnolia, now vanished, perhaps planted by Munson himself.
