Woodmen of the World Denison Woodmen of World Building 201 West Woodard Street Denison, Texas. The Old Woodmen of the World Building, northeast corner of Austin Avenue and Woodard Street. In 1972, it was destroyed by fire. At that time the ground floor was occupied by Chris Waltz Plumbing. Woodmen of the World was founded in 1890 in Omaha, Nebraska, and the Denison “camp" was organized in 1891. Offering its members aid in times of need, the WOW is noted for distinctive tombstones depicting tree stumps that the organization erected nationwide prior to 1930. 201 West Woodard Street corner of Woodard & Austin Woodmen of the World building fire after 1955 The old Woodman of the World building goes down in flames.
