Redding Family Letters
DeWitt Hedrick Redding & Frank Manning
On December 8, 1907, tragedy struck the Redding and Manning families of Falls Co, Texas, when a practical joke backfired and Frank Manning accidentally shot and killed his best friend, DeWitt Hedrick Redding, a younger brother of my grandfather James Byers Redding. DeWitt Hedrick Redding is buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery.A few years ago I was very pleased to obtain a copy of the letter that my grandfather had subsequently penned, just three days later, to the grieving young Frank Manning plus a note from another brother, Eugene Forbes Redding.
