Charles Hodges
Charles Hodges, b February 2, 1815 in Mississippi, December 19, 1888 in Falls County, Texas and buried In Garrett Cemetery at Stranger, Falls County, Texas - was a son of Reverend Isom Hodges, b 1780 in South Carolina, died before 1840 in Mississippi, and his wife, Mary Terrell, b February 4, 1791 in South Carolina, died before 1850 in Mississippi - a daughter of John Terrell, of South Carolina. Reverend Isom and Mary (Terrell) Hodges were married in 1806 in South Carolina, before moving to Mississippi. They were the parents of eleven children: John Terrell Hodges, b August 22,1807; Mary G. Hodges, b January 2,1809; James G. Hodges, b October 30, 1812; Charles Hodges, b February 2, 1815; Sarah G. Hodges, b June 1, 1817; Valindia Hodges, b March 6, 1820; Vyannia Hodges, b November 9, 1824; Henry Hodges, November 9, 1824; Pawhatton E. Hodges, b August 2, 1825; George W. Hodges, b January 4, 1830; and Judson Hodges, b October 18, 1832.Charles Hodges was married in Mississippi on May 31, 1842 to Susanna Parker, b October 19, 1822 in Mississippi, d February 9, 1871 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas and buried in Garrett Cemetery there - a daughter of William Parker, and his wife, Easter Jane (maiden name unknown) Parker, b 1790 in South Carolina - alive in 1850 in Mississippi, who also had a son, G. B. Parker, b 1815 in Mississippi.
Charles and Susannah (Parker) Hodges moved from Mississippi to Texas after the Civil War - settling in East Falls County, in the Blue Ridge Community (now Stranger). Their eleven children were all born in Mississippi:
Mary Jane Hodges, b July 31, 1843, d June 11, 1862.
William Parker Hodges, b February 22, 1845 - came to Texas. His wife is known only by her initials, F. J., and four of their children were buried in Garrett Cemetery at Stranger: Eugene Hodges, b September 27, 1872, d August 22, 1878; Jennette Hodges, b July 18, 1875, d July 21, 1878; Moses Hodges, b June 3, 1879, d June 9, 1879; and Infant Daughter Hodges, born and died May 26,1882. No further information.

John J. Hodges, b December 26,1848, d December 26, 1848.
Jacob Rite Hodges, b April 14, 1850, d May 27, 1916 -married July 29,1869 in Falls County, Texas to Rhoda Ann Garrett, b January 27, 1851 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d June 18, 1937 and both buried in Garrett Cemetery at Stranger - a daughter of Thomas McKissick and Linea Frances (Brandon) Garrett.
Dabney Ridgeway Hodges, b February 10, 1852, d May 22, 1922 - married August 12, 1869 in Falls County, Texas to Sarah Ellen Garrett, b February 13, 1853 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d January 24, 1941 and both buried in Fairmont Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas - a daughter of Thomas McKissick and Linea Frances (Brandon) Garrett.
Stephen Thomas Hodges, b May 1, 1854 - also came to Texas. His wife is identified only by her initials, J. S.; and one of their sons, Ernest Hodges, b October 17,1881, was buried in Garrett Cemetery at Stranger.
Susanna E. Hodges, b November 27, 1856, d September 27, 1869.
Philip Pawhatton Hodges, b May 11, 1859 - also came to Texas. His wife is identified only by her initials, I. L.; and two of their children, Walter Hodges, b December 8, 1884, d November 10, 1885; and Eva M. Hodges, b February 9, 1888, d November 23, 1888, are buried in Garrett Cemetery at Stranger.
Juliett Hodges, b April 6, 1862, d April 6, 1862.
Sarah I. Hodges, b November 19, 1864 - no further information.
After the death of Susanna (Parker) Hodges, Charles Hodges married second to Martha Agnes (Erskine) Sparks, b August 28, 1832 in McMinn County, Tennessee, d January 9, 1900 - daughter of Hugh and Jane (Richards) Erskine, and widow of William Sparks, who died September 4, 1865 at age 33 years - a son of Willoby and Mary Sparks of Limestone County, Texas. Martha Agnes was buried by her first husband in the Erskine Family Cemetery located on FM 147 to Groesbeck on the Hale Farm - by whom she had had four children: Minnie J. Sparks, b 1858, who married in 1890 to James Daugherty; J. W. Sparks, b 1859; William Richard Sparks, b 1861, d 1932; and Samantha Sparks, b 1863, who married in March 1890 to L. T. Hafibaur. Charles and Martha Agnes had no children, and when he died, he was buried in Garrett Cemetery by his first wife, by whom he had had eleven children.
