Abner H. Hodge
Abner H. Hodge, b 1819 in Arkansas, d January 3, 1860 in Fort Bend County, Texas and buried in Hodge's Bend Cemetery - was the fourth child of Archibald Hodge, b November 5, 1790 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, dafter 1855 in Fort Bend County, Texas, and his wife, Charlotte (Reeves) Hodge, b ca 1796 in South Carolina, d ca 1833 in Fort Bend, Texas, Coahuila, Mexico.Abner's parents were married on June 27, 1812 in Christian County, Kentucky; and on December 23, 1812, the father, Archibald Hodge, was enrolled in Captain Benjamin H. Reeves' Company, Sixth Regiment, Kentucky Militia, for the War of 1812.
His grandfather, Alexander Hodge, b 1760 in Pennsylvania, d August 17, 1836 in the Republic of Texas and buried in Hodge's Bend Cemetery - married in 1788 to Ruth Hodge, b 1769 in South Carolina, d 1831 in Texas, Coahuila, Mexico, and was also buried in Hodge's Bend Cemetery. Alexander and Ruth (Hodge) Hodge were in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1790 where they lived until they moved to Christian County, Kentucky. They had seven sons and four daughters on the 1810 Census of Kentucky.
Alexander Hodge's family emigrated to Arkansas, and by 1825 were registered in Austin's First Colony at San Felipe. In 1829, Alexander was serving as Commissioner of the Victoria Precinct in what became Brazoria County, Texas, where they had moved in 1826.
In 1841, Abner H. Hodge was married to Elba Rose, b 1822 in Mississippi, d March 29, 1854 - a daughter of P. W. and Margaret Rose, b 1795 in Kentucky. Abner and Elba continued to live in Fort Bend County, where their five sons were born and orphaned.
The children were:
Thomas J. Hodge, b June 6,1842 in Fort Bend County, Texas, d July 16, 1922 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas - never married. He lived for a long time in the area of Sugar land, Texas, and came to Falls County only a few years before his death where his brother, Arch, lived and is buried by him in the Stranger Cemetery.
Edward W. Hodge, b 1846 in Fort Bend County, Texas.
Granville Hodge, b 1847 in Fort Bend County, Texas.
E. Vernon Hodge, b 1849 in Fort Bend County, Texas - married and died there. There are no dates on his tombstone.
Archibald H. Hodge, b March 8, 1851 in Fort Bend County, Texas, d March 28, 1928 in Kosse, Limestone County, Texas, at the home of a daughter, Charlotte (Hodge) Arnett, and was buried in the Stranger Cemetery. He was married ca 1874 to Mary E. Sears, b April 12, 1856 in Georgia, d October 5, 1935 in Kosse and buried at Stranger Cemetery - a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Sears. Arch came to Stranger to live with his aunt, Cynthia (Hodge) Roberts Moffett.
It is not known who reared the children, although the grandmother, Margaret Rose, was living with the family in 1850.
