Creed Penick Curd
Creed Penick Curd, b November 25, 1891 in Kentucky, d September 15, 1943 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried there in Calvary Cemetery - was a son of Edmond Edwin and Georgia (Bowman) Curd, natives of Kentucky who brought their family to Falls County, Texas in 1907, settling on Blue Ridge.Creed Penick Curd (called "C. P.") was married to Dovie Brown, b February 17, 1893, d February 15, 1977 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - a daughter of Reuben A. and Queen Victoria (Kay) Brown. C. P. and Dovie moved to Marlin about the time that World War I ended, and during the 1920's, he was in the retail grocery business with his father-in- law, and a brother-in-law, Austin Grady Brown. He subsequently became representative for an oil company, and a few years before his death, he built a business for his filling station and grocery store at 1301 Live Oak Street in Marlin and continued in that business until his death.
Creed Penick and Dovie (Brown) Curd were the parents of our children:
Virginia Victoria Curd, b April 5, 1918 - married October 4, 1941 in Falls County, Texas to Charles A. Stone, and had two known children: Charles Stone and David Stone.
Lucile Curd, b September 5, 1919 - married July 2,1939 in Falls County, Texas to Curtis R. Eddins, Jr., and had one known son: Curtis R. Eddins, III.
Florine Curd, b May 24, 1921 (although Falls County Birth Records say May 21, 1921) - who married first to Jan Senuta, and had Jan Peter Senuta, II, b March 2, 1945 who married Emily Gentry, b February 18, 1947 - a daughter of James Lonnie and Margaret Emily (Mitchell) Gentry, Jr.; and married second on July 24, 1953 to John Conrad Erskine, b October 7, 1913 - a son of Jasper Stovall and Sarah Katherine (Dillard) Erskine, and had John Conrad Erskine, II, b November 22, 1955, who has a daughter and a son; Jane Lynn Erskine, b July 6,1957 who married Mark Allen Toppert, and has a daughter; and James Stovall Erskine, b August 24, 1959, who married and has one daughter.
Creed Penick Curd, Jr., b December 21, 1922- married June 6, 1947 in Falls County, Texas to Georgia Ann Frost, and had two identified children: Creed Phillip Curd, b March 14, 1949, and Craig Mathew Curd, b September 13, 1954. C. P. Curd, Jr. served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
C. P. and Dovie Curd reared their family in the Baptist Church, and were active in the civic, social, and community affairs of Marlin. C. P., Jr., entered the business of his father, where he continued for some years.
