Joshua Vandiver Cobb
Surnames: COBB, HALL, SAXON, ROGERS, AYCOCK, BUTTRILL, GILLETT, GARDERE.Joshua Vandiver Cobb, b June 2, 1852 in Alabama, d April 16, 1942 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin -- was a son of Elijah Cobb, b 1829 in Georgia, and Mary Susan (Hall) Cobb, a native of South Carolina. In 1870, Joshua Vandiver Cobb came from Alabama to Reagan, Falls County, Texas, where he rented a farm for a few years, and then purchased 174 acres of land.
In 1879, Joshua was married first to Henrietta Saxon, b 1861 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d1881 - a daughter of Joshua Arnold and Lucy Frances (Rogers) Saxon, and granddaughter of Larkin and Mary (Aycock) Rogers. Joshua and Henrietta had one child, Mary Alice Cobb, b ca 1880.
Joshua was married second in 1884 to Sarah E. Buttrill, b September 28, 1860 in Texas, d October 13, 1944 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - a daughter of William and Martha E. (Rogers) Buttrill, and they had three children:
Henry Lawrence Cobb, b January 27, 1885, d March 25, 1966, who married Frances Gillett Johnson (called "Fannie"), b February 9, 1886, d July 16, 1970 - a daughter of William Henry Clay and Hannah Elizabeth (Gillett) Johnson.
Martha Cobb - no information.
Robert Vandiver Cobb, born in Reagan, Falls County, Texas - was the wholesale agent for Humble Oil in Marlin. He married first to Una Curry, of Marlin, and married second to a widow, Mrs. Gardere.
