Samuel Dillard Burke
Samuel Dillard Burke, b May 15, 1843 in Talladega County, Alabama - was a son of Jesse and Sarah (Harlan) Burke, who settled in the Blue Ridge Community of Falls County, Texas in 1868, having moved from South Carolina to Alabama; from Alabama to Arkansas, and subsequently to Texas.On July 9, 1865, Samuel D. was married to Tementia Webb - a daughter of Meredith and Sarah [Johnson) Webb, natives of Tennessee, who settled in Arkansas.
In 1862, in Arkansas, Samuel Dillard Burke enlisted in the Confederate States Army - serving first in Company H, 12th Arkansas Calvary, and later in the Infantry. After participating in a number of skirmishes and battles, he was kicked by a mule and disabled - thus escaping the Battle of Mansfield, where nearly all of his company were killed. After the Civil War ended, Samuel returned to Arkansas, married, and then moved to Texas with others of his family, where they first settled in the Blue Ridge Community of Falls County. In 1871, Samuel sold his original farm, and bought another near the Reagan Community, where they established their permanent residence. Samuel and Tementia (Webb) Burke were the parents of eleven children:
Sarah Ellen F. Burke - married first to John M. Burke on January 13, 1884 in Falls County, Texas. She married second to John E. Millwer, who settled in Falls County also. No further information.
John R. Burke, died in infancy at Dardanelles, Arkansas, and was buried there.

When Samuel Dillard Burke began life for himself, all he owned was a pair of mules. He has spent his adult life as a farmer and stockman - raising horses, mules and cattle.
