John Thomas Briggs
John Thomas Briggs, b October 22, 1862 near Eutaw, Limestone County, Texas, d February 8, 1920 and buried in Eutaw Cemetery near Kosse, Texas - was a son of William E. and Eliza Jane (Bums) Briggs, also buried in Eutaw Cemetery. His maternal grand- parents were Benjamin Franklin and Mary Louise Burns, who settled in Limestone County in 1857.On January 27,1892 in Limestone County, Texas, John Thomas Briggs was married to Annie Bell Pool, b June 3, 1866 in Kosse, Limestone County, Texas, d March 16, 1948 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery - a daughter of Elias and Margaret (Bell) Pool, natives of South Carolina; and a granddaughter of Samuel and Anna Bell of South Carolina, who settled at Stranger, Falls County, Texas in December 1853.
John Thomas Briggs was a farmer - raising many acres of cotton, and a stockman. He lived near Eutaw all his life - being born there, and dying there.
He and Annie Bell had eight children:
Henry Grady Briggs, b January 28,1894 d 1986.
Frank Briggs, b November 1895 - was killed while in the U.S. Army during World War I.
Reva Elizabeth Briggs, b February 22, 1897, d May 14, 1985 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas. She never married.
Annie Bell Briggs, b March 1899 - married Russell Corley of Fort Worth, Texas, and resides in Arlington, Texas.
Ruth Briggs - resides in Marlin, Texas, and has not married.
Robert Jolly Briggs (called "Bob") - no information.
John Golden Briggs - resides in Kermit, Texas. No further information.
Inez Briggs, who was associated with the Majestic Flower Shop until her retirement. She resides in Marlin, and has not married.
The family members were all of the Presbyterian denomination, and were active in the First Presbyterian Church of Marlin, where Ruth and Inez still worship.
