He married October 31, 1906 at the of his bride's parents near Otto, Falls County, Texas, to Nancy Belle Bradshaw, b August 24, 1882, d December 5,1979 in Marlin, and both buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. Nancy Belle was a daughter of Madisnn Lafayette and Mildred Matilda (Dougherty) Bradshaw, who moved to Falls County, Texas from Weakley County, Tennessee.
John Herman and Nancy Belle had four children:
Boyd Herman Barton, b September 17, 1907 at McClanahan, d August 26, 1977 - married first in 1933 to Olga Louise Arnold. No further information.
John V. Barton, b March 29, 1909 at McClanahan, d April 25, 1982 in Marlin - married November 10, 1933 to Lucille Blasingame - daughter of G. W. Blasingame of Powers Chapel in west Falls County. John was City Water Department Engineer for the City of Marlin until his retirement. John and Lucille had two daughters: Mary Frances Barton, b October 27, 1946, d January 29, 1947; and Johnnie Lou Barton, b February 17, 1949 in Marlin - married first on February 18, 1976 to William Lyle Creasy, and had Jennifer Elaine Creasy, b May 27, 1977. She married second Fred D. Anderson and resides in California.
James Madison Barton, b March 1, 1911, d February 16, 1966 - was never married.
Mildred Elizabeth Barton, b April 8, 1913 at McClanahan - married on October 14, 1936 to James Henry Walston, and resides at Spring, Texas.
