James Barton
James Barton, b February 15, 1857, d October 1, 1916 at McClanahan, Falls County, Texas - was a son of David G. and Mary Paralee (Wilson) Barton. He was fourteen years old when his parents died.In 1881, James was married to Alice McClanahan, b January 25,1864, d September 24,1956, and buried by her husband at McClanahan Cemetery - a daughter of John R. and Katherine ("Kate" Smith) McClanahan.
James and Alice spent their entire lives in the community where they were born, and were members of the the McClanahan Baptist Church. He served four years as a Falls County Commissioner of Precinct 1.
James and Alice (McClanahan) Barton had ten children:
John Herman Barton, b October 20,1882 at McClanahan, d June 4, 1955 - married October 31, 1906 to Nancy Belle Bradshaw, b August 24, 1882 in Otto, Falls County, Texas, d December 5, 1979 - a daughter of Madison Lafayette and Mildred Matilda (Dougherty) Bradshaw, who moved to Falls County, Texas from Tennessee.
Hellen Barton, b April 4, 1884, d August 6, 1888 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery.
Walter Barton, b February 2, 1886, d April 4, 1886 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery.
James Franklin Barton, b October 29, 1887, d December 18, 1919 - married May Criswell, b August 26, 1892, d January 1, 1976 - worked at the Marlin National Bank, had no children; and after his death, May married second to Clifford Anthony McCoy.
Ora Barton, b ca 1889, d 1930 - married Marvin M. Allen and had one son, Walter B. Allen, who was a student at Baylor University when his mother died.
Thomas Beverly Barton, b February 12, 1893, d November 14, 1898 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery.
Nolie Barton, b 1895, d 1920 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery.
Mabel McClanahan Barton, b July 26, 1898 - married John Henry Quick and moved to Cisco, Texas.
Charles Esley Barton, b ca 1900 - married first to Pauline Burkett of Yoakum, Texas and had two children. No identity given of his second wife.
Harriet P. Barton, b 1903, d 1928 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery.
