David Barton II
Surnames: BARTON, HILL, BORUM, BROWN, DAVIS, McALPINE, KING, NEAL, OAKES, COVINGTON, JARVISDavid Barton II, b December 17, 1789 in Franklin County, Virginia, d December 7, 1853 in Falls County, Texas - was a son of Lt. David Barton, b March 15, 1744 in Maryland, d September 15, 1815 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, and his wife, Hannah Hill, b March 25, 1754 in Virginia, d August 7, 1829 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.
On October 11, 1811, in Wilson County, Tennessee, David Barton II was married to Sarah Borum, b 1788 in Virginia, d 1848 in Limestone County, Texas - a daughter of Richard Borum of England, David II served in the War of 1812. He and Sarah had eight sons in Tennessee (five living to adulthood), and two daughters (one living to adulthood) in Fayette County, Alabama, where the family had resettled before 1830. David was prominent in politics in that state, and continued this practice after moving to Texas about 1846.
Sarah (Borum) Barton died about 1848 in Limestone County (in the area which later became Falls County), Texas; and David then made his with one of his sons, Swinfield H. Barton. When Falls County was created in 1850, David II was appointed a county commissioner.

Little Berry Hugh Barton, b February 27, 1819 at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, d 1898 in Falls County, Texas - married in Itawamba County, Mississippi to Jane Davis - daughter of John L. and Elizabeth (Lolla, sic Lawler) Davis, Sr.; married second August 16, 1854 to Mrs. Susan (McAlpine) King.
Richard Albert Barton, b ca 1820 in Tennessee, d May 31, 1851 by drowning in the Brazos River in Bosque County, Texas - married ca 1847 in Limestone County, Texas to Elizabeth Oakes - a daughter of Charles and Susan (Neal) Oakes. Richard Albert (called "Albert") and Elizabeth had two known children before he was drowned crossing the Brazos River on a ferry, and his body was never recovered. The children were: Robert Joshua Barton, b 1848, and Susan Barton, b 1850. Richard Albert Barton originally came to Texas before 1840 with his uncle, Robert Barton.
Swinfield H. Barton, b ca 1822 in Tennessee, married ca 1848 in Limestone County, in the part which became Falls County, Texas to Mary Davis. Fleming James Barton, b February 14, 1824 in Tennessee - married in Limestone County (part now Falls County), Texas to Elizabeth Juliann Covington.
Daughter Barton, b & d 1826 in Alabama.
Nancy Jane Barton, b ca 1829 in Alabama - married ca 1849 in Limestone County (that part which became Falls County), Texas to John W. Jarvis.
This family, believed to be of the Baptist faith, made a great impact on the history of Falls County, and their descendants are still represented in the county.
