Roy M. Wright
Services for Roy M. Wright, 85, of Temple and formerly Cameron, will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin with the Rev. Theiss Jones officiating.
Mr. Wright died Thursday, Aug. 29, in a Temple hospital.
He was born in Falls County. He lived in Temple 41 years and in Cameron 20 years. He graduated from Marlin High School and Texas A&M University. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farm and Administration, as a county supervisor for Milam and Burleson counties after 20 years of service. He worked 21 years for Equitable Life Assurance as a farm and ranch loan manager. He served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II, from July 27, 1942, to Jan. 28, 1946, retiring as a captain. He was a major in the Air Force Reserves. He married Bessie Swinnea on March 1, 1941, in Austin. He had been a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Rotary Club. He served as chairman of deacons at both the First Baptist Church in Cameron and the First Baptist Church in Temple. He served in the nursing ministry at Four Seasons Care Center and Manor Care Nursing Center.
Survivors are his wife, Bessie S. Wright of Temple; a son, Larry M. Wright of Austin; and two grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church in Temple or the Texas Baptist Children’s in Round Rock.
Sheffield Funeral in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
