Margaret Leona Walker
October 29, 1900 – December 30, 2002
Margaret Leona
Walker, 102, of Marlin, Texas went to be in God’s presence December 30, 2002.
Margaret was
born at Wooten Wells in Robertson County, Texas on October 29, 1900, the year of
the Great Storm in Galveston. She was raised in Falls County, until she left in
1921 for Lubbock to complete her Nursing training at Texas Tech University. She
married Kirk Walker on June 25, 1937 at the Methodist Parsonage. Margaret worked
as a Registered Nurse in Washington State as well as in Marlin for over 45
years. She lovingly attended many families in their need as a private nurse in
the Robertson and Falls County areas in later professional life. She was
privileged to administer one of the first private penicillin shots during World
War II.
Margaret was a
member of First United Methodist Church of Marlin from 1913 until moving to
Bryan in 1986 where she came under the watch care of the First Baptist Church of
Bryan. She had great affection for her Susanna Wesley Bible Class at First
Methodist Church in Marlin, of which she was an active member for over 50 years.
Margaret was
preceded in death by her parents, George A. and Idella Tunnel McBryde, her
husband Kirk W. Walker and a sister, Mabel Bauman. She has lived under the watch
care of her cousin, Betsy Leach Rowland and husband Sam Rowland for the past 17
years, blessing their lives greatly. Two dear friends, Betty Burnham and Pearlie
Cooper of Bryan, also blessed her life.
A private
graveside service was held Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Hillcrest Cemetery in
Marlin with Dr. Richard Maples officiating. The family of Mrs. Walker wishes to
thank the Colton Inn and their staff for their 17 years of care.
