BERNICE WEIR
MOODY -- Bernice Bostick Weir, 101, of Moody, went to be with
her Lord and Savior Sunday night, Nov. 4, 2001, in Temple. Services will
be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with Dr. John
Hogan officiating. Interment will follow in Moody Cemetery under the
direction of Cole Funeral Moody Chapel, 304 8th St. in Moody.
Mrs. Weir was born June 5, 1900, in Viola,
Tenn. to the late Thomas Mercer and Martha Ann (Swann) Porter. She moved
to the Troy area where she was reared and attended school. On Feb. 2,
1918, she married Virgil T. "Pat" Bostick and moved with him to the Liberty Hill
community east of Moody. They farmed the area for many years and became
parents of four childre(n), Byron Leo Bostick, Martha June Parham, and Billy Pat
Bostick.
Mrs. Weir had a long and busy life and her
ability to cope with great personal loss gave her a strong testimony for Christ.
As a result of her own experiences, she was one who ministered to others.
Mr. Bostick preceded her in death Oct. 1957, and in 1961 she married Hugh Weir
who preceded her in death in 1963. She has continually been an active part
of Bostick Farm. In 1993 the family was honored for having the family farm
in their possession for over 100 years. In 1990, Rebecca Sharpless
interviewed Mrs. Weir and her experiences on the farm were included in Dr.
Sharpless's thesis "Fertile Ground, Narrow Choices." Her memoir has been
placed in the Texas Collection at Baylor University where it is available for
scholarly research.
It has been said that her desire in life
was that all people, especially her family, would know Jesus Christ. She
tried to lvie for Jesus and witnessed whenever she could. She was a member
of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by son, Byron Leo
Bostick, daughter, Bonnie Bell Bostick; step-son, Gene Weir;
