A telephone message was received in this city today announcing death at Garden City Friday of Mrs. Gen. E. A. Shields.

The funeral will take place from the residence of R. E. L. Tomlinson on Fortune street Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, the remains arriving at one o'clock.

Mrs. Shields was 74 years of age and was a resident of this state for about 50 years. She came with her husband, the late Gen. Shields, to Texas from Alabama. In that state Gen. Shields was a member of the Federal congress before the war.

The family resided at Marlin for some years, later moving to Chilton where Gen. Shields died. The widow moved this year to Garden City with Shields Key and family.

Mrs. Shields was beloved by all who know her for her many noble traits of character.

The funeral services of Mrs. E. A. Shields were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. J. A. Montgomery, conducting. Beside friends and relatives residing here, there were present Mr. and Mrs. H. Brevard, Mrs. R. B. Manlove, Mrs. Hall, and R. M. Key of San Marcus, Mrs. Francis Smith of El Paso, Shields Key of Garden City, and J. H. Key of Austin.
