G. R. Seward Among the Dead.
-----
Brenham, Tex., Nov. 23.
-- After weary months of waiting on the shadowy shores of time, death has at
last relieved the suffering of Mr. George R. Seward at the of his daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Bailey, at Angus, Navarro county. Death
came Friday night, and the old veteran passed over the river to rest in the
shade of the other shore.
Mr. Seward was born in Illinois October 23,
1824, and was therefore at the time of his demise 83 years and 1 month of age.
He was a former resident of Independence, this county, and was married here
about 1867 to Miss Louise Robertson, and two children of this union survive him.
They are Mrs. W. L. Bailey of Angus and Mr. Henry H. Seward of Lott. He is
an uncle of Mr. O. A. Seward of this city and Mrs. O. T. Holt of Houston, a
brother-in-law of Mr. H. O. Robertson of Independence and Mrs. Bettie Glay of
Independence.
As before stated, he came to Texas from
Illinois Christmas, 1832, and from Illinois Christmas, 1832, (repeat), and has
been a continuous resident of this (sic) was spent in this county, and during
his sojourn there made a host of friends warm and true, who will learn of his
demise with deep regret.
He was a veteran of the war with Mexico, a
gallant soldier, a good neighbor, a loving husband, a kind and indulgent father,
and his demise will be deeply deplored by a large circle of acquaintances
throughout Texas.
