FORMER MARLIN PASTOR
DIES AT HIS IN AUSTIN
Rev. Henry M. Sears, a Methodist minister and for the past twelve years chaplain
of the Texas Senate, died late Saturday afternoon at his residence in Austin at
the advanced aged of 79 years, bronchitis being the immediate cause of death.
He had been ill for the past two weeks. When the senate adjourned Saturday
eveningit was in respect to his memory, and a resolution was adopted making
provision for members of the senate to attend the funeral services, which were
held at 3:30 o'clock Sunday at the Tenth Street Methodist church. He was born in
Tennessee and had been a resident of Texas since 1882 and of Austin since 1897.
He was a leading member of the Texas Conference of the M. E. church South. Dr.
Sears was also at on time chaplain of the State Insame Asylum. He is survived by
a widow and a daughter, Miss Florence Sears, and two brothers who reside in
Paducah, Ky.
Rev. Sears was pastor of the First Methodist church of Marlin about twenty years
ago, and is most kindly remembered by Marlin people.
