~~~~~
Shortly after three o'clock
Monday afternoon Father O. Schorer, the priest who was pastor of St. Joseph's
Catholic church in Marlin met a most tragic death at the lake of the Marlin Oil
Company.
Rev. O. Schorer in company with Mr. Holland, a visitor had gone up to the
lake to spend a while fishing. Jesse Stuart was there and had his gun in a
boat.
Rev. Shorer took hold of the gun by the muzzle to lift it from the boat.
The hammers struck the seat and one of the loads was discharged taking effect
in the right side near the nipple. The right lung was penetrated and almost
completely destroyed.
Medical aid was hastlly summoned but the unfortunate man was mortally
wounded and nothing could save his life. He was dead in 35 minutes, the end
coming while his prostrate form was being taken to his home. He was perfectly
rational until the last, conversing freely with those around him.
Justice Frazier was called to hold the inquest and his verdict was in
accordance with the facts.
Deceased had been pastor of St. Joseph's Church about three years and had
won the love and respect not only of his own congregation but of the many with
whom he became acquainted. His was a most admirable character and impressed all
been called from earthly walks.
