Nelia Craig Swinney, daughter of the late Mr. Silas Craig and Mrs. Maggie Taylor
Craig, was born February 16, 1889 in Limestone County, Texas.
She attended the Long Branch Community school at an early age
Mrs. Swinney professed a hope in Christ and joined Long Branch Church in her
community under the pastorage of the Reverend N. Moore. In later years she
moved to Marlin and united with the South Union Baptist Church and remained a
faithful member until her health began to fail. She was a faithful usher
for many years.
She was married to Dennis Swinney in the 1940's. He
preceded her in death. Mrs. Swinney departed this life, Saturday, January
10, 1981 in Torbett-Hutchins-Smith Memorial hospital, Marlin, Texas. To
cherish her memory are four sisters, Mrs. Virgie Lee Runnels, Mrs. Ina
Massingill, Mrs. Alice Sanders and Mrs. Essie Lee Vandabilt all of Marlin, two
foster children, Mrs. Minerva Miles, Marlin and Mrs. Martha Rhodes, Waxahachie,
Texas. Also seven nieces, three nephews, and a host of grand and
great-grand nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Interment: Long Branch Cemetery, Kosse, Texas.
