CLOIS STONE

       Gatesville--Mr. Clois D. Stone, 91, of Gatesville died Monday, May 12, 2003, at a Waco hospital.  Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19 at Restland Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating.  Memorial services will follow the graveside service at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at Scott's Funeral Home.

       Mr. Stone was born Sept. 17, 1911, in the Blevins community of Falls County near Eddy, Texas.  He was the son of the late Charley D. and Lella May Bowers Stone.  Also preceding him in death were his brother, Charles A. Stone of Fredericksburg, Texas, and sister, Mrs. R. P. (Geneva) Stone Marshall of Kingsville, Texas.  He was raised and attended schools in the Blevins and Eddy community, graduating from Bruceville-Eddy High School.  He married the former Miss Edith Peters of Lott on Sept. 19, 1942, in Belton.  Mr. Stone worked as a clerk at A.S.C.S. in Falls County and as executive director for A.S.C.S. (now the F.S.A.) in Galveston, Bastrop, Bell and Coryell Counties for 44 years, retiring in January 1979.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church.  He was a longtime member of Gatesville Lions Club, a former member of Coryell County Chamber of Commerce and Gatesville Riding Club.  He was a former director of the Coryell County Museum and Historical Center.  Mr. Stone had an avid love for farm life; he was once awarded the Championship Hog Caller's award for Central Texas.  He was also a member of the Draft Horse and Mule Association and the Texas Early Day Tractor and Engine Association in Temple.  His hobbies included photography and artifacts and books relating to farming and agriculture.

       Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith Stone of Gatesville; son, Dr. Paul Stone and his wife Dr. Melissa Stone of St. Paul, Minn.; sisters, Mrs. Edna Stone Hayman of Houston and Mrs. Lena Stone Criswell and her husband Glenn of Albuquerque, N. M., and a host of other relatives and friends.

       The family requests that memorials be given to First United Methodist Church or the Coryell County Museum and Historical Center.
