SUDDEN DEATH OF JIM SAWYER.
-----
Died at His Saloon After a Short
Illness
-----
Jim Sawyer, proprietor of Sawyer's saloon on Live Oak street, died at his place
of business about 8:30 Tuesday night.
There were present G.G. Gordon, J. W. Lynch
and one or two others. They say he began complaining some while sitting in
a chair in the front of the saloon. He appeared to be suffering from
extreme heat and he was moved to the yard in rear of the saloon and efforts made
to relieve him from the heat. With a few groans and gasps he passed away
while lying on the cot and before physicians were summoned.
Deceased was 55 years of age and had been
in Marlin about six years.
The remains were viewed by Justice Dashiell
who pronounced his death due to natural causes. The remains will be
interred at McGregor, where he formerly resided and where his mother is buried.
He has a sister in the territory and a
niece, Mrs. Murry in Waco. These are the only relatives known of here.
