MARLIN -- Annie Ford (Mrs. Ann) Smith of Marlin, a former
teacher, died Thursday in a Marlin nursing home. She was 103.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday
at the Chilton Cemetery in Chilton, the Rev. A.A. Bratcher and the Rev. Jerry
Faught officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 28, 1892, in
Iuka, Miss., and came to Texas when she was four years old. She settled in
Bell County for several years before moving to Chilton. Mrs. Smith
attended North Texas State University for two years and received her bachelor of
arts degree from Baylor University. She then went to the University of
Texas, where she did graduate studies.
Mrs. Smith taught school for nearly 50
years, 40 of which were at the Chilton Elementary School. At the time of
her death, Mrs. Smith was the oldest member of the Chilton Baptist Church.
She was also a member of the Demonstration Club in Chilton and the Chilton
Cemetery Association.
Survivors include a niece, Billie McCabe of
Waco; a nephew, Dr. Dilbert Akin of Austin; two great-nieces; and one
great-nephew.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity
or orphanage.
Adams Funeral in Marlin is in charge of
arrangements.
