MRS. JOHN ED GURLEY
Mrs. John Ed (Virginia Louise) Gurley, 93, of Marlin died
Sunday at a local hospital.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home, the Rev. Harold Calhoun
officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Gurley was born June 25, 1895, in Falls County, the daughter of Henry Clay
Vann and Mary Elizabeth Barton Vann. She graduated from Marlin public
schools and attended Texas Christian University.
She married John Edward Gurley on Feb. 24, 1916, in Marlin. The couple
resided in Marlin all of their married life where Mr. Gurley was a barber.
He died Feb. 18, 1972.
Mrs. Gurley was a member of First Christian Church of Marlin.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Gurley of Bellvue, Wash.; four brothers Cecil
Vann and Eddie Vann, both of Marlin, Thomas Vann of Corpus Christi and Curtis
Vann of Robinson; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Evans and Mrs. Sallie Smith, both of
Marlin, Mrs. Ruby Woodward of Dallas and Mrs. Mary Pearl Reese of Cotulla; three
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Edward Evans, Charles Ray Evans, Henry Clay Vann, George
Fillip, Tommy Tate and John Johnson.
